چکیده

We study one-dimensional two-species fermionic superfluids with order parameter twisted by an angle φ at the two ends. By solving the corresponding Bogoliubov-de-Gennes equation, we obtain the U(1) soliton state which turns out to carry φS/(2π) spin, where S is the spin of single fermion. For Z2 soliton with φ = π, the localized state carries only 1/2 of a single fermion spin. To conserve the total spin of the system as an integal multiple of S, we demonstrate, the localized fractional spin φS/(2π) can be compensated by an opposite total spin −φS/(2π), which distributes uniformly in space and is thus undetectable locally in the thermodynamic limit.

Quantum criticality of a Fermi gas with a spherical dispersion minimum.

We describe the quantum phase transition of a Fermi gas occurring when the quasiparticle excitation energy has a minimum in momentum space which crosses zero on a sphere of radius k(0) not equal 0. The quasiparticles have a universal interaction which controls the physical properties in the vicinity of the quantum-critical point. We discuss possible applications to fermionic superfluids formed ...

Stability Conditions in Gapless Superconductors

Gapless superconductivity can arise when pairing occurs between fermion species with different Fermi surface sizes, provided there is a sufficiently large mismatch between Fermi surfaces and/or at sufficiently large coupling constant. In gapless states, secondary Fermi surfaces appear where quasiparticle excitation energy vanishes. This work focuses on homogeneous and isotropic superfluids in t...

Kinetics of mobile impurities and correlation functions in one-dimensional superfluids at finite temperature.

We examine the hydrodynamic approach to dynamical correlations in one-dimensional superfluids near integrability and calculate the characteristic time scale, τ, beyond which this approach is valid. For time scales shorter than τ, hydrodynamics fails, and we develop an approach based on kinetics of fermionic quasiparticles described as mobile impurities. New universal results for the dynamical s...

A pr 2 00 4 Superfluid to Mott insulator transition in one , two , and three dimensions

We have created one-, two-, and three-dimensional quantum gases and study the superfluid to Mott insulator transition. Measurements of the transition using Bragg spectroscopy show that the excitation spectra of the low-dimensional superfluids differ significantly from the three-dimensional case. A low dimensional gas can be created in a trap when the confining potential restricts the motion of ...
